Brief History of Burns Farm

Located in California’s San Joaquin Valley, Burns Farm spans more than 4,000 acres with senior water rights and some of the most productive soils in the state. Once managed primarily as commodity row crops, the property has been transformed under Farmland LP’s stewardship into one of the largest organic blueberry developments in North America.

The farm’s transition began in 2018, when the first 152 acres of blueberries were planted. Over the following years, additional phases added hundreds of acres annually, supported by major infrastructure upgrades such as high-capacity pump stations and irrigation systems. By 2023, more than 600 acres had been converted to organic blueberries, producing strong yields and capturing premium pricing in the market.

Beyond blueberries, Burns Farm remains a diversified operation with organic vegetables, sweet corn, wheat, and other crops grown alongside tenant-farmed acreage. The scale of the redevelopment has dramatically increased productivity and value, driving revenue per acre from under $300 to more than $800, with blueberries generating the highest returns.

Today, Burns Farm stands as a flagship case study of Farmland LP’s strategy: converting conventional farmland into regenerative, organic operations that deliver both superior financial and ecological outcomes.
